For summer 2026\, there is there are two options\, 1) attend for only August 10th and 11th to participate in an exploration of the Biomanufacturing and BioPharma industries or 2) attend for the entire week. \nAll school personnel involved in supporting students’ college and career choices are encouraged to apply for the 2-day program. Preference will be given to those serving high school students. \nApplicants for the 5-day program should be high school life science educators that will teach at least two courses during the 2026/2027 academic year. Preference will be given to classroom teachers who include biotechnology-based lab activities in their classrooms. \n  \nOutline for the 2026 Teacher Summer Institute \nBiomanufacturing: August 10 and 11th\, 9:00am – 4:00 pm \nDays 1 and 2 will offer Biomanufacturing overview and careers in BioPharma presentations\, the opportunity to complete a protein purification activity\, learn about skills-based micro-credentials. We will also feature presentations\, demonstrations and hands on activities at Northeastern University’s Biopharmaceutical Analysis and Training Lab\, Burlington campus. \nLab Intensive: August 12th – 14th\, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm \nDays 3-5 will deploy cornerstone biotechnology techniques like electrophoresis\, primer design and PCR to research projects involving the determination of genotypes in Brassica rapa\, testing arthropods for Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme disease carrying parasite)\, Wolbachia\, and Rickettsia rickettsii (Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever parasite). \nThe 2 options for participating in this program are: \nOption 1: Biomanufacturing\, August 10th and 11th only. Participants can join for only the Biomanufacturing component of the program.  All enrollees must participate fully in both days of this 2 day of the program. Participants completing the 2-day program will receive a $220 stipend and $200 to offset the cost of travel to the training center. \n  \nOption 2: Biomanufacturing plus Lab Intensive\, August 10th – 14th. Teachers can join for all five days of the program. All enrollees must participate fully in all five days. Participants completing the 5-day program will receive a $220 stipend and $200 to offset the cost of travel to the training center for the Biomanufacturing component and will qualify for 3 graduate credits from Westfield State University or 67.5 PDPs from MassBioEd. \nA $200 fully refundable deposit will be collected from all participants. \nComplete this form to be entered into the selection pool\, a MassBioEd staff member will be in contact with next steps.

Designed to offer a big-picture understanding of how biotech organizations operate\, the course can be taken as a combined experience or as standalone Business or Science modules\, depending on participants’ interests and goals. The Business portion introduces core business considerations in biotech\, including regulation\, market dynamics\, phases of development\, patient populations\, and safety profiles. Through instruction\, real-world storytelling\, and small-group discussion\, participants gain insight into how strategic and regulatory decisions shape biotech companies. The Science portion focuses on foundational biological concepts\, including cell biology and molecular biology\, to support a deeper understanding of how life science companies function. Participants explore key scientific principles that underpin drug discovery and development\, with hands-on lab work included during in-person sessions to reinforce learning and practical application. Together\, these modules provide participants with a well-rounded framework for understanding how science\, business\, and regulation intersect across the biotech ecosystem. Who should attend? This course is designed for a broad audience\, including individuals who are new to the biotechnology or life sciences industry\, those transitioning from another scientific or professional field\, and professionals seeking a stronger foundational understanding of either the business\, the science\, or both. It is particularly well suited for participants who want to understand how their role fits into the larger biotech landscape and how scientific innovation moves from concept to organization and market. Participants looking to deepen their understanding of the biotech industry may benefit from Finance of Biotechnology\, Drug Development Pathways\, or Biotechnology Project Management\, which expand on financial decision-making\, the drug development lifecycle\, and project execution within life sciences organizations. \nSchedule \nBusiness\nTuesday\, September 22\, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST \nScience\nWednesday\, September 23\, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST \nMeet the Instructors \nBusiness Instructors \nJohn Tagliamonte\nSVP\, Business Development\, Tract Bio \nJohn Tagliamonte has more than 30 years of executive leadership experience across public and private life sciences companies\, with expertise in business development\, finance\, commercial operations\, strategic planning\, and legal functions.
